Lugano, a Swiss city with a Mediterranean soul, is the destination of many tourists for its wide range of events and activities. Visitors can range from places and sites of historical and environmental interest - included in the UNESCO cultural heritage - to cultural initiatives and events, from shopping to many activities for families, and much more.

Art and culture

Lugano and Ticino have always been a point of reference and artistic encounter between southern and northern Europe. With its monuments, museums and art galleries, this area offers an artistic heritage of great value attracting many visitors.

The pride of the city is the LAC - Lugano Arte Cultura, the largest cultural centre in Lugano and one of the points of reference in Canton Ticino, focusing on the artistic production and on the encounter of different arts, especially theatre, music and visual arts.

Hiking and nature

For lovers of hiking, trekking, cycling, and motorcycles, Ticino offers a wealth of options. From spring to autumn, you can enjoy relaxing lakeside strolls, venture onto more challenging Alpine trails, or embark on artistic and cultural itineraries. And for those who love nature holidays, a must-see is the Zoo at Maglio ai Mulini in Neggio, where you can observe over 200 animals from around the world up close, surrounded by lush greenery, with a playground and a picnic area with barbecues.

And for a unique experience, a visit to the Sessa gold mine is well worth it. With over two kilometers of tunnels on five levels, you can retrace the paths of miners over the last two centuries, immerse yourself in the history of gold mining in Switzerland, and discover the most spectacular and characteristic features of the mining world.

Golf and water sports

Golf enthusiasts will find an 18-hole course in Magliaso (only 10 minutes by car from Lugano). The course has a suggestive setting, winding along the Magliasina river on a flat terrain surrounded by forests of birch, oak, pine, beech, rhododendron, oleander and azalea.

The Magliaso course is known as very technical and challenging due to the almost constant presence of water obstacles and narrow fairways, often limited by rich vegetation. Long holes, suitable for a powerful game, alternate with shorter and less wide holes that require greater precision.

During spring and summer months, Magliaso - like many other places in Ticino - offers the opportunity to practice water sports: among them, Stand Up Paddle, a sport activity that is rapidly evolving all over the world.

For those traveling with their families, the Lugano area and the Ticino region offer many opportunities to experience unique and unforgettable moments with loved ones: from the largest miniature theme park in Switzerland, Swissminiatur, to the adventures on Monte Tamaro, one of the most popular places in the region for its unique view.

Ticino to taste

A discovery journey in Lugano and Ticino cannot be defined as such if you leave without tasting the food and wine specialties of the area. To quote but a few, polenta - to be accompanied by various Ticino specialties -, fondue chinoise and raclette.

Cured meats and local derivatives are also very appreciated and always present in every “grotto”, as well as cheese, which turned from poor companion to our grandparents' meals to delicious food with high-quality standards thanks to the farmers who still produce it in the mountain pastures.

All these dishes are always well accompanied by a good glass of Merlot Ticino DOC red wine, a must on our tables.

Finally, liqueurs and spirits such as Nocino - a digestive liqueur made from green walnuts-, the typical grappa or the brandy made from American grapes.
